The Greenwich Hospital Auxiliary has existed for the past 62 years. These extraordinary volunteers have been an integral part of Greenwich Hospital, giving freely of their time to help make the hospital the premier institution it is.
During the past fiscal year, the 594 adult and 189 junior volunteers gave a total of 69,778 hours to various departments in the hospital and to the Auxiliary’s Gift and Thrift Shops. Their pink, red, green or blue uniforms are seen throughout the hospital.
With funds raised through donations and sales in its two stores, the Auxiliary completed the first year of a five-year pledge of $1,000,000 for the Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Wound Healing. It also donated an additional $100,000 to the new Diabetes and Weight Loss Center.
As it has in the past, the Auxiliary contributed $4,000 to the Greenwich Scholarship Association to fund four scholarships for graduating Greenwich High School students. These graduates plan to pursue studies in the healthcare industry.
Additional funds were used to purchase magazines for patient rooms and family lounges in the hospital, and in support of fundraising activities of The Greenwich Hospital Foundation.
With the help of a $1,000 grant from IBM for the purchase of yarn, the Auxiliary’s Healing Shawls Program volunteers provided hand-knit shawls and hats for oncology patients. This very successful program is in its third year.
In all they do, the Greenwich Hospital Auxiliary volunteers are a dedicated group of people who provide a welcome service to patients and families of Fairfield and Westchester Counties.
