Subsidized Housing
Modern air-conditioned apartments, a short walk from the hospital, are available rent-free for all three-year Categorical residents and at subsidized rates for all one-year Preliminary residents. Housing is fully furnished, if desired. Free parking on site.
Benefits
Medical/Dental Coverage
Comprehensive medical and dental insurance for the resident and family. Flexible benefits package. Those with coverage through a spouse may select supplementary benefits to avoid overlap.
Life Insurance, Disability, Malpractice
Paid by the hospital. Disability policy is similar to that developed by Yale University and includes portability and enhanced benefits.
Meals
Breakfast and lunch provided daily at conferences. Dinner provided when on-call.
Fitness Center
A state-of-the-art Fitness Center for employees, physicians, residents, volunteers and rehab patients.
Travel Subsidy
$500 per month travel subsidy provided for electives at Yale-New Haven Hospital.
Conference Attendance
Up to $1,000 paid toward an approved Continuing Medical Education Conference for second and third year residents.
Ancillary Services
Transporters and ancillary support, including respiratory and I.V. therapy, are on-duty 24-hours a day.

On-Call Schedule
One night call per week during MSICU/Telemetry and Floor rotations. Weekends covered by Day Float/Night Float “team.” Every fourth night call during initial orientation block.
PGY I
An average of every sixth night distributed as follows: One night call per week during MSICU/Telemetry and Floor rotations. Weekends covered by Day Float/Night Float “team.” Every fourth night call during initial orientation block.
PGY II / III
An average of every eighth night for PGY II and every twelfth night for PGY III residents. Thirty-six weeks of Monday to Friday call covered by a Night Float; remaining call and all Weekend call by cross-covering senior residents.
Vacation
*Four weeks vacation taken from electives.
Emergency Medicine
*Four weeks of emergency medicine taken in two week blocks from elective time any year (categorical only.)
Orientation Block
**Each PGY1 resident rotates through at least one inpatient service and the outpatient center.
