Center for Healthy Aging - Enhance your quality of life!
Greenwich Hospital's Center for Healthy Aging offers a wide range of programs to enhance the quality of life for older adults and their families. Professional services are available in many areas-including memory evaluation, psychiatric screening and medication review, as well as numerous programs and support groups for family members in caregiver roles.

The Center for Healthy Aging is conveniently located on the third floor of the Watson Pavilion, just steps from the public elevator. For information about services and support groups, please call (203) 863-4373.

In addition to its outpatient services, the center works with inpatients in Greenwich Hospital's Carl and Dorothy Bennett Acute Care for the Elderly Center. This unit offers an interdisciplinary approach to help older adults maintain their independence and prevent physical and mental decline while receiving treatment for acute illnesses.

Programs

Chronic Illness Group Therapy
Keeping a positive attitude can be a challenge when you're faced with a chronic illness or disability. Fear, sadness, frustration, guilt and anger add to the distress, and may make physical symptoms worse. Group psychotherapy is proven to be effective and can be an excellent addition to medical care. This group is led by geriatric psychiatrist Joshua Pollack, MD, and Roni Lang, LCSW. The cost of the group is covered by most insurances. Pre-screening required. Call (203) 863-4375.

Family Caregiving Consultation
Families caring for a person with dementia or chronic disease meet privately with an experienced licensed clinical social worker to discuss specific family needs and challenges related to caregiving. The goal is to enable caregivers to adequately address concerns and make knowledgeable decisions. To arrange a consultation, contact Roni Lang, LCSW, at (203) 863-4375. Fee: $90 for a one-hour session. (GENERATIONS Platinum members receive a discount.)

Memory Evaluation
Conducted by our nurse practitioner, this session evaluates short-term memory, orientation, ability to learn new information, and other cognitive functions. For more information call (203) 863-4373. Fee: $75. (GENERATIONS Platinum members receive a discount.)

Medication Review
Learn more about the medications and supplements you take. Our clinical pharmacologist will give you a comprehensive explanation of how these substances work and any side effects and interactions you should watch for. For information call (203) 863-4365. Fee: $95. (GENERATIONS Platinum members receive a discount.)

Comprehensive Aging Assessment
This in-depth evaluation is for people with medical, psychological, cognitive or social problems that interfere with daily living. It provides detailed information about current health status and recommendations to help prepare for the future. The assessment is conducted by an interdisciplinary team headed by a board-certified geriatrician, a physician who specializes in aging issues. The team reviews medications, and assesses mobility and the ability to perform routine tasks. Referrals and counseling are available regarding nutrition, diabetes self-management, and support services. A detailed report including recommendations can be forwarded to your primary care physician. For information call (203) 863-4373. Fee.

Psychiatric Evaluation
Depression and behavioral issues that accompany memory loss or dementia are common in later life. Counseling, medication, or a combination of both, often help patients feel better, more productive and satisfied with life. The Center for Healthy Aging's geriatric psychiatrist is highly trained in the management of emotional and behavioral problems related to aging. For more information call (203) 863-4373. Fee.

Support groups offered through the Center for Healthy Aging are FREE. However, we ask that you call ahead before attending to make sure the group is suitable for your needs. Please call (203) 863-4375 for specific information about support groups and meeting sites.
