Community Outreach
Greenwich Health at Greenwich Hospital (GH @ GH) is the community-based outreach program at Greenwich Hospital. Greenwich Health at Greenwich Hospital is devoted to improving the health status of the community by offering screenings, support groups and community health education. The major programs are listed below:
Support Programs
- Cancer Patient Counseling. For cancer patients and/or their family members to discuss cancer-related issues. This counseling is available with Kathleen Conway, APRN, MSN, CS.
- Managing Breast Cancer. For recently diagnosed women, their spouses and/or caregiving friends, this 3-part series is designed to promote healing and vitality. Sessions cover treatments and support services, ways to care for your body, and how to nurture your emotional health and that of loved ones
- Prostate Cancer Education Forum is a program of support and education for men with prostate cancer, their wives, and family members to better live with the diagnosis and treatment. Cancer Counselor Judy Ulrich facilitates the group.
- Parkinson's Support Group meets weekly at the Greenwich Civic Center courtesy of the Greenwich Department of Parks & Recreation and under the leadership and direction Diane DeMain, RN, MS. Provides education, comfort and support to patients with Parkinson's Disease and their family or friends.
- Parents Exchange provides an organized forum of mutual support for parents of children with groups based on children's ages ranging from birth and infancy to adolescence. The weekly program led by child development professionals helps parents build confidence in their parenting skills and abilities.
Screenings and Evaluations
- The Nurse Is In four days a week for free blood pressure screening and referrals to physicians regarding health concerns.
- Greenwich Hospital Lions Low Vision Center provides occupational therapy services to persons with moderate vision impairment to maximize their remaining vision, making their lives livable and enjoyable. By appointment with a physician referral, Monday-Friday.
- Pre-School Vision Screening is offered by Greenwich Health in cooperation with Prevent Blindness America and reaches more than 1,500 three-to-five year olds in nursery schools and day care centers in Greenwich.
- Workplace Wellness. Greenwich Health offers cholesterol and blood pressure screening at corporate and community health fairs. Recent corporate clients include Board Room, CM Almy, Cummings & Lockwood, Crompton Corporation, Cantor Fitzgerald, and Unilever.
Community Health Education
- Pediatric and Adult CPR classes are offered monthly to family members of infants and toddlers, plus nannies and other child care providers, and adults. Classes are taught in accordance with standards of the American Heart Association.
- Yoga and Tai Chi Classes. Greenwich Health offers a range of classes aimed at health and healing targeting Mind, Body & Spirit. Classes include Foundations of Meditation and Yoga, Hatha Yoga, and Tai Chi.
- SMOKE STOPPERS is an eight-session smoking cessation program for smokers who want to quit or cut back. The emphasis is on positive lifestyle change and gains of becoming a nonsmoker, rather than focusing on the loss of cigarettes.
