Greenwich, Conn. (January 11, 2010) – Greenwich Hospital’s Emergency Department has received a $1.7 million contribution from the Foundation for the New York United Hospital Medical Center.
"This gift from the Foundation for the New York United Hospital Medical Center is a wonderful example of the philanthropic spirit that has helped Greenwich Hospital become the strong regional healthcare medical center it is today," said Frank A. Corvino, president and chief executive officer of Greenwich Hospital.
A plaque was placed in the Clinical Decisions Area of Greenwich Hospital’s Emergency Department to commemorate the Foundation’s generosity. The Emergency Department, which serves communities in Westchester and Fairfield counties, handles more than 41,000 visits a year. New Yorkers account for 40 percent of patients.
Joining Corvino at the plaque ceremony were former trustees of the Foundation, including Daniel P. Mahoney, Marvin H. Davidson, Thomas F. Egan and Elizabeth Dater Jennings, wife of trustee William Mitchell Jennings.
"We are grateful to the former trustees of the Foundation for the New York United Hospital Medical Center who arranged for the funds in the foundation to come to Greenwich Hospital after United Hospital closed," said Corvino.
United Hospital Medical Center in Port Chester, NY, closed in 2004 due to financial problems. Since then, the number of New York residents turning to Greenwich Hospital’s Emergency Department has dramatically increased.
