The goal of physical or occupational therapy is to help people regain maximum mobility and independence to improve their quality of life. Greenwich Hospital offers focused, individualized rehabilitation services on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.
The First Appointment
Therapy prescriptions (referrals) should be faxed by a physician to the department at 203-863-4590 before scheduling an appointment. Arrival 15 minutes before the scheduled appointment will allow enough time for review of medical information.
Patients should be sure to have:
What to Expect
- A current insurance card
- A list of prescription and over-the-counter drugs currently being taken. Download medication form >>
- An appointment book or calendar for scheduling therapy sessions
- Any imaging studies that have been done (X-rays, MRI's)
Initial evaluation typically takes about one hour. (Lymphedema evaluations may take 90 minutes.) Depending on symptoms and medical history, the staff may check a patient’s:
- Range of motion
- Balance and gait
- Daily functional ability
- Pain level
Treatment on the first visit depends on the type of problems the patient is experiencing.
Individual Treatment Planning
The therapist will evaluate the patient’s individual problems and concerns and develop a plan of care for ongoing therapy. Before the patient leaves the initial appointment, a plan will be in place that includes a therapy schedule.
A report outlining treatment will be sent to the referring physician.
Greenwich Hospital takes most types of insurance coverage. The hospital staff works with patients to determine specific insurance coverage for therapy and other services. We recommend that all patients contact their insurance company directly for information on how many therapy sessions are covered and whether or not these sessions need to be pre-authorized.
