Before You Arrive

Going to the hospital can be stressful. Whether admitted for a scheduled test or procedure, coming in to have a baby, or arriving at the Emergency Department due to illness or accident, patients arriving at Greenwich Hospital can feel confident in the care of knowledgeable professionals.

If you are going to Greenwich Hospital ...

1. For a pre-scheduled test, procedure, surgery or therapy

Patient instructions are provided by the patient’s personal physician. If you have questions about these instructions, contact your physician’s office.
See Being Admitted Guidelines, What to Bring and What Not to Bring for helpful patient information.

To learn more about coming to the hospital for diagnostic tests (MRI, X-ray, blood draw), physical therapy, healthy aging assessments, wound care and other services, see Medical Specialties.

Advance Directive
Before surgery, patients may want to provide written directions or preferences about their medical care or request someone to act on their behalf. A legal document called an Advance Directive includes a living will and health instructions. Learn more >>

2. For pre-scheduled ambulatory/outpatient surgery

Ambulatory or outpatient surgery, including eye, orthopedic and other procedures, are performed at two locations: the main hospital at 5 Perryridge Road and the Helmsley Ambulatory Surgical Center at 55 Holly Hill Lane. Learn more about Ambulatory Surgery, where and how to register, what to bring, where to go, and about the nurse who guides the patient from pre-operative tests to discharge and follow-up.

3. Through the Emergency Department

Patients of all ages who are admitted through the Emergency Department are treated with compassion and expedience. A triage system helps determine which patients should be treated first. Greenwich Hospital has specially trained pediatric emergency care specialists and is a certified stroke center. Valet parking is available.

Learn more about the Emergency Department, what to expect, where to go, and about patients who need to be admitted to the hospital from the Emergency Department.

4. To have a baby

Maternity patients preregister through the Admitting Office about four months before the baby is due. Obstetrics patients and their partners enter Greenwich Hospital through the Emergency Department (valet parking available) and proceed to the Birthing Center on the third floor of the Helmsley Medical Building.
