Smilow Cancer Hospital Opens Greenwich Hospital Campus

New Haven and Greenwich, CT, January 22, 2013 – Yale-New Haven’s Smilow Cancer Hospital has opened a new campus at Greenwich Hospital. The opening of Smilow’s Greenwich Campus will allow Yale Cancer Center specialists to work collaboratively with leading oncologists and specialists from Greenwich in the hospital’s advanced and newly renovated facilities. Yale Cancer Center also has numerous clinical trials available, many of which will now be offered to patients receiving care at the Greenwich Hospital Campus.

“The establishment of Smilow Cancer Hospital’s Greenwich Hospital Campus will increase access to high-quality cancer care through a convenient location in lower Fairfield County,” said Thomas J. Lynch, Jr., MD, director of Yale Cancer Center and physician-in-chief of Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven. “This is an innovative way to enhance the exceptional care already being provided by Greenwich Hospital physicians, and bring the latest clinical trials to patients in their local communities.”

“Our affiliation with Yale New Haven Health System and the Yale School of Medicine has allowed us to expand and enhance treatment options and types of cancer that we can treat,” said Frank A. Corvino, president and CEO of Greenwich Hospital. “Through our relationship with Smilow, we’ve added another level of care to the already outstanding array of cancer resources that are available at the hospital.”

“Greenwich Hospital is home to an outstanding outpatient and inpatient cancer program that combines the latest advanced technology with a nurturing environment to bring the highest standard of cancer care and support to patients and their families,” said Dickerman Hollister, Jr., MD, medical director, Bendheim Cancer Center, Greenwich Hospital. “We are delighted to team up and collaborate more extensively with the excellent clinicians from Smilow and Yale Cancer Center, offering our patients unparalleled expertise close to where they live and work.”

Greenwich Hospital currently offers a full array of cancer services, including medical oncology, radiation oncology, diagnostic radiology, surgery, a dedicated breast center and support services. With the opening of the Smilow campus at Greenwich, Yale Cancer Center specialists in prostate and genitourinary, head and neck, gynecologic, and brain cancers will be available for patient appointments immediately. Additional specialists will follow later this year.

Smilow Cancer Hospital is one of the most comprehensive cancer facilities in the country. It is affiliated with Yale Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center – one of only 41 in the nation.

In addition to Smilow Cancer Hospital’s main campus in New Haven and its new campus at Greenwich Hospital, it also has eight cancer care centers located in convenient locations across the region.
