Minimally Invasive Surgery
Greenwich Hospital surgeons and staff specialize in minimally invasive surgical techniques for a wide range of procedures, across virtually all surgical disciplines. Surgeries that once required extensive hospital stays and long periods for recovery and recuperation are now routinely done with this less invasive approach, often on an outpatient basis.
Using laparoscopic technology, specialized equipment and, at times, robotic assistance, the surgeons at Greenwich Hospital make tiny, precise movements through very small incisions. These innovative techniques cause minimal trauma to the body and offer significant advantages to surgical patients including:
- Quicker recovery
- Less blood loss
- Less scarring
- Less pain
- Faster return to normal activity
Single Incision Multi-Port Laparo-Endoscopic (SIMPLE) Surgery
Greenwich Hospital surgeons are among a small group of specialists worldwide pioneering a new minimally invasive technique known as Single Incision Multi-Port Laparo-Endoscopic (SIMPLE) surgery. This enables complex procedures to be performed using just one incision.
The SIMPLE surgery technique is used for a variety of procedures, including colon resection, hernia repairs, appendectomies, solid organ removal, gynecologic surgery and cancer surgery. Greenwich Hospital is expanding the use of SIMPLE surgery to bariatric procedures, as well.
Patients who undergo SIMPLE surgery generally go home the same day with less pain and scarring and are able to return faster to their normal activities.
Robot-Assisted Surgery
Greenwich Hospital is setting a new standard for minimally invasive surgical care using robotic assisted technology with the da Vinci Surgical System. Our surgeons use advanced robotic technology for general, urological, bariatric, colon and gynecological procedures.
