Nurturing Families Network

First-time parents can be nervous, and no wonder. While having a baby brings many joys, it also brings many challenges. When parents feel they can use a little extra help, the Nurturing Families Network is standing by.

Nurturing Families is a partnership led by Family Centers, together with the Department of Health and Greenwich Hospital. The program assists new parents, making sure they have the resources they need to handle the added responsibilities of parenthood. It is supported by a grant from the Children's Trust Fund, an organization that supports good parenting.

From education to home visits
New, first-time parents have all kinds of questions, from general (will I be a good parent?) to specific (why does my baby cry at night?). Trained staff will work with new parents to provide the answers they need, and will even provide home visits until parents become confident.

The Nurturing Families Network is available in many communities throughout Connecticut. All first-time mothers who give birth at Greenwich Hospital (and who are residents of Connecticut) will be visited by a program counselor after delivery for an informal screening and assessment. If they are interested, and they meet the program's criteria, they will receive the support that Nurturing Families provides. The program gives special emphasis to providing a continuum of care for new families whose lack of experience or resources may put them at risk.
