Medical Services > Radiology Services > Diagnostic Radiology Diagnostic Radiology Diagnostic radiology covers a broad range of diagnostic tests from chest X-rays to gastrointestinal (GI) series to intravenous pyelograms. Some of the tests, such as chest X-rays or simple bone X-rays, require no special diet or preparation. Other tests, such as the upper GI or barium enema, require preparation through special diets one or several days before the exam. Greenwich Hospital's Radiology Department will give you sample menus and information on preparing for the test. Diagnosing a problem is the first step toward recovery from any medical condition. Some procedures practiced at Greenwich Hospital are: MRI using a magnetic field to provide detailed images Ultrasound using sound waves to view internal structures Bone density testing to detect osteoporosis Radiography and general x-rays for clear precise images CT scan to show anatomy in great detail Breast imaging/mammography for prevention and diagnosis of breast cancer PET scan to measure metabolic activity Nuclear medicine to view real-time organ function Angiography to detect blockage or narrowing of blood vessels Myelogram to see the spinal cord and its nerve roots GI (gastrointestinal) series to see the digestive tract Digital fluoroscopy to see moving body systems including the skeletal, digestive, urinary, respiratory, and reproductive systems |
