Overview
The subspecialty of Pulmonary Medicine is staffed by board-certified physicians who diagnose and treat disorders of the lung and chest cavity, such as asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, pneumonia and sleep disorders.
Some of the special procedures performed by the staff include:
- Exercise Pulmonary Testing
- Fiber-optic Bronchoscopy
- Pleural Biopsy/Chest Tap
- Preoperative Evaluation
- Pulmonary Function Testing
- Sleep Studies
The Hospital's Sleep Laboratory also rests under the auspices of the Department. The laboratory is directed by Dr. Stuart McCalley and staff includes professional technologists who monitor the state-of-the-art equipment that is used to diagnose the sleep disorder so that treatment can begin.
Because the Laboratory is at the hospital the patient can take advantage of the hospital's many services and medical specialists, an important advantage since the diagnosis and treatment of many sleep problems requires the assistance of other medical and surgical specialists.
