Greenwich Hospital

Greenwich Hospital has an adult intensive care unit which provides specialized care, treatment and monitoring of critically ill patients, plus an intermediate care unit for patients who no longer require intensive care, but still need special monitoring. The hospital also has a neonatal intensive care unit for its smallest patients.

Medical & Surgical Intensive Care Unit
A 10-bed unit serving medical and surgical patients with acute medical conditions and complications who require critical care. The unit treats patients whose clinical condition warrants specialized nursing and advanced technology.

A full-time, board-certified intensivist serves as the unit's medical director. Additional staff consists of registered nurses and nursing assistants highly trained in medical and surgical critical care.

Visiting policy
Visiting hours are flexible to meet the needs of patients and their families. We ask families to refrain from visiting during shift changes from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Family and patient support
The MSICU team includes a nursing case manager to facilitate hospital care; a social work case manager to assess home care and emotional needs upon discharge; and spiritual care professionals of all faiths. The palliative care team also is available to support patients and their families.

For more information about the MSICU, call: (203) 863-3533

Location: Second floor of the Helmsley Medical Building

Intermediate Care Unit
A 14-bed unit for patients with cardiac and other medical conditions who -- although not in need of intensive care -- require an intermediate level of care that includes specialized monitoring, nursing and resources.

This unit features special telemetry cardiac monitoring devices for heart rhythms, in addition to respiratory monitoring equipment.

The staff includes specially trained registered nurses, cardiac monitor technicians and nursing assistants.

Visiting policy
Visiting hours are noon to 8:30 p.m., seven days a week.
