Preparing for pregnancy
What happens before a child is conceived, and in the critical first few weeks afterward, may have a profound impact on later quality of life. As a result, many obstetricians encourage their patients to begin adopting healthful new habits before conception even takes place.
These include
- eating a balanced diet
- taking a daily vitamin pill
- getting plenty of rest
- participating in regular exercise
- moderating the use of caffeine and artificial sweeteners
- avoiding certain medications
- adopting a smoke-free and alcohol-free lifestyle

Learning about childbirth and baby care
Maternal/Child nurses say parents who have taken the classes tend to be more relaxed during labor and delivery...and in caring for their babies. Because the classes have a consistent philosophy, it is recommended that expectant parents participate in as many as possible. Be sure to see all the pregnancy and childbirth classes offered through our Tender Beginnings program.
