About Maternity Services

Greenwich Hospital Maternity Services partners a wide range of specialists, including obstetricians, perinatologists, anesthesiologists, neonatologists and pediatricians, to provide complete care for women and babies before, during and after pregnancy. In addition, our nutritionists, social workers and other healthcare professionals complete the Maternity Services team at Greenwich Hospital.

Our Philosophy of Care
Gone are the days when moms labored alone while dads paced in the lobby. They've been replaced by a new type of philosophy where classes, support groups and direct care give guidance to parents, support parental skills and competence, and provide sound education that promotes health.

Based on input from patients as well as from years of their own experience, our staff recently defined the philosophy of care for Maternity Care Services at our hospital.

Their list included

  • A commitment to providing continuity of care, from pre-conception through all the phases of pregnancy, delivery and infant care
  • A belief in the competence of families
  • A belief that parents will make good decisions when provided with good information
  • A commitment to promoting strong family ties and providing a safe, supportive environment for bonding
  • A belief that parents know their children best
  • A belief that the extended family serves as an anchor in times of crisis and should be encouraged and supported in that role
  • A responsibility to integrate promising new practices and therapies into existing programs on a continuous basis
  • A belief that the birthing experience is more enjoyable to the maternity patient in a single, private room
