I D A P
(Infectious Diseases Antibiotic Program)

Who We Are
The IDAP program has been in existence for more than 15 years. IDAP provides intravenous medication in an ambulatory setting. Most of our patients would otherwise be treated in the emergency room or admitted to the hospital. IDAP provides once a day infusions which are done in the IDAP treatment rooms. Patients who require multiple doses daily wear a portable pump and return each day to IDAP for monitoring. In addition, therapeutic phlebotomies, therapies for multiple sclerosis and other infusions are given on a scheduled basis in IDAP.

IDAP is part of a multidisciplinary Team of Services
IDAP is a link in the multidisciplinary team of services at Greenwich Hospital. A patient can go to work or be at home and get high quality care. This can include infusions, injections, wound care, laboratory work and scheduling of any other services that the department ordered. Whether the patient is in the physician's office, emergency room, clinic, or in the hospital, he or she can be admitted to IDAP and started on treatment usually within two hours of notification. Pharmacy, laboratory, respiratory, radiology, cardiology, and physical therapy are all part of our multidisciplinary team. Often their services are asked for on a STAT basis. There is not a supportive service in the hospital that IDAP does not use and value.

The Level of Services Provided to Meet Patient Needs

  1. Patients from infants to adults are served in IDAP. Their diagnosis include but are not limited to bacterial infections, fungal infections, viral infections, non-healing wounds, dehydration, arthritis, hypogammaglobulinemia, multiple sclerosis, deep venous emboli, hemochromatosis, polycythemia, and hypertension.

  2. The IDAP nurse will secure insurance company authorizations, perform complex wound care, provide on-going nursing assessments, arrange for patient transportation to and from IDAP, educate patients and in-home care givers, enter records in computer data bases, schedule appointments/tests and be available on-call throughout the night.

Hours of Service
IDAP is open 365 days a year from 7am to 5pm. Physician referral is required for admittance to IDAP. Two registered nurses are always available. After 5pm a registered nurse is on call to 7am. Each of the nurses has over 15 years of experience. To reach us, call (203) 863-3274.

Standards of Practices
IDAP recognizes and uses evidence based practices of the INS Association, hospital wide policies and procedures and the Center for Disease Control & Prevention.
