Pre-Assessment Center

Greenwich Hospital's Pre-Assessment Center is designed to assist the surgical patient with any questions or concerns prior to the day of surgery. Whether the procedure is major or minor, Greenwich Hospital's Pre-Assessment Center is here to help. The Pre-Assessment Center is where patients have an initial contact with a registered nurse. Patients who need lab work or other tests in advance can meet with a Pre-Assessment Center nurse in person or consult with them on the phone.

Knowing what to expect
The consultation covers a number of issues related to health and comfort. The Pre-Assessment team educates patients about what to expect, what clothes to wear, which of their medications to take and which to discontinue prior to surgery. The doctor's instructions to the patient are reviewed, in a calm, one-on-one environment, and the patient is able to pose any questions he or she may have.

Pre-assessment is also a good time to note any special needs, such as a physical challenge or language barrier. It's not just the hospital stay that is discussed; care at home after discharge is also thoroughly covered.

When patients know what to expect, it reduces their anxiety. By speaking or meeting with the Pre-Assessment staff beforehand, there are no surprises, and no aspect of their care is left to chance.

The Pre-Assessment Center is located on the second floor of the Watson Pavilion in the Medical Ambulatory Center, right across from the elevators. To contact the Center, please call (203) 863-3608.
