Oral and Maxillofacial Overview
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are dental specialists who treat conditions, defects, injuries, and aesthetic aspects of the mouth, teeth, jaws, and face.

With specialized knowledge in pain control and advanced training in anesthesia, the oral and maxillofacial surgeon is able to provide quality care with maximum patient comfort and safety.

Greenwich Hospital's oral surgeons are skilled in the latest bone plating and minimally invasive surgical techniques. The majority of procedures can be performed in an office setting. However, advanced diagnosis or treatment may require that the patient receive services at Greenwich Hospital. In these cases, the doctor's office will handle scheduling for the patient.

Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons go through education and training that includes a four-year graduate degree in dentistry plus a minimum four-year hospital surgical residency program. Some of Greenwich Hospital's oral surgeons have a medical degree (MD) degree in addition to their dentistry degree.

Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons address a wide variety of dental conditions:

  • diagnosis and treatment of diseases
  • facial and mouth lacerations caused by injury or trauma
  • fractures of jaw and facial bones
  • impacted wisdom teeth
  • implants
  • jaw and facial pain
  • jaw and mouth tumors
  • jaw deformities
  • reconstruction and bone grafting
