Treatment > Surgical Oncology > Tumor Board & Conference Tumor Board & Conference The Tumor Board and Tumor Conference at Greenwich Hospital reflect the hospital's team approach to the treatment of cancer. Specialists from various disciplines pool their expertise to provide the most effective treatment. Richard Eisen, MD, a board-certified surgical pathologist fellowship-trained at Yale University leads the hospital's weekly . This conference brings together a multidisciplinary team to review all diagnoses of cancer (except basal and squamous skin cancer and non-invasive melanoma) and explore all appropriate treatment options for patients seeking care at Greenwich Hospital. The team is made up of medical oncologists, radiologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, surgeons and other specialists. Once a month, a Tumor Conference convenes for an in-depth discussion of two or three recent cancer cases. The meetings are open to the entire house staff, the medical staff and oncology nurses. At the meetings, a physician familiar with the patient presents a case history. Radiologists and pathologists provide pertinent information from their areas. Consulting oncologists from the Yale Cancer Center attend the meetings and participate in the discussion. Patients benefit from this multidisciplinary approach, which brings together the combined expertise of many specialists and provides an informal "second opinion" from other cancer experts. The Tumor Board and Tumor Conference meetings also provide an opportunity for discussion of new treatments. |
