Inpatient Oncology Unit

The inpatient oncology unit on the third floor of the Watson Pavilion was designed to meet the medical and emotional needs of patients and their loved ones. The staff takes a family-centered approach to care, recognizing the impact of a cancer diagnosis on patients and family members, alike.

The 24-bed unit (16 private and 4 semi-private rooms) features an expanded family care area with a spacious lounge, kitchenette and bathroom. The lounge, which can be divided into two rooms to accommodate overnight visitors, includes sofa beds, computers, televisions, and VCRs.

The hospital's oncology nurses, spiritual care team, social workers, therapists and others work together to provide compassionate, comprehensive care to patients undergoing diagnostic testing and treatment. The staff includes certified oncology nurses, specially trained to care for cancer patients and their families. Patients also have access to integrative medicine practices, including massage therapy, healing touch and other complementary therapies designed to ease the hospital experience. Trained volunteers who have chosen to work in this unit are also part of the cancer care team.

The hospital provides a seamless continuum of oncology care for patients who require home hospice care. Palliative care services are also available at the hospital to assist patients and families with the medical and psychosocial issues that arise near the end of life. The team includes a medical pain physician who is board-certified in pain management and palliative care, spiritual care professionals and a specially trained oncology counselor.
