Robotic Surgery

Greenwich Hospital’s gynecologic surgeons specialize in robot-assisted, minimally invasive surgery using the daVinci Robotic System. For many women this surgery may be the most effective treatment for a range of gynecological conditions such as:

This advanced technology allows surgeons to perform procedures through small 1-2 cm incisions, with an enhanced 3-dimensional view and an increased range of motion. The benefits of robotic surgery include:
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • Fewer complications
  • Significantly less pain and risk of wound infection
  • Less blood loss and scarring
  • Faster recovery and return to normal activities
  • Preservation of the uterus and/or ovaries

Robotic-Assisted Surgical Specialties
Myomectomy

Myomectomy is a surgical procedure to remove fibroids from the uterus. Robot-assisted surgery  enables  surgeons to perform this operation through small incisions with great precision and control.

A myomectomy preserves the uterus and eliminates the need for a hysterectomy. For this reason, it is often recommended for women who may someday want to consider pregnancy.

Hysterectomy
For hysterectomies, robot-assisted surgery may offer women the most effective, safest and least invasive treatment option. Robotic technology enables surgeons to perform hysterectomies with greater precision, dexterity and control through a few tiny surgical openings, 1-2 cm in length.

This less invasive approach minimizes the pain and risk associated with large incisions, while increasing the likelihood of a fast recovery and quicker return to normal activities.

A wide variety of gynecological conditions are treated with hysterectomy:
  • Uterine fibroids (noncancerous tumors)
  • Endometriosis (noncancerous growth of the uterine lining)
  • Uterine prolapse (falling or slipping of the uterus)
  • Cancer
Ovarian Surgery
Ovarian surgery may be necessary to diagnose and treat conditions such as ovarian cysts and ovarian cancer. Robotic technology enables surgeons to perform ovarian surgery with greater precision, dexterity and control through a few tiny surgical openings, 1-2 cm in length.
