Personal Guidance
Whether the reason for being admitted as an inpatient is for observation and testing or for surgery, Greenwich Hospital staff is available to assist all patients, answer questions and address any concerns that arise. Patient support services include  organizing tests and admission procedures, making discharge arrangements, coordinating home care and rehabilitation services  and helping patients understand  insurance benefits.

While in the hospital
Patients are cared for by a team that includes physicians, nurses, case workers and others. These healthcare professionals provide patients and families with the information, support and care necessary to address a variety of patient needs. Strong and clear communications are emphasized throughout the patient stay.

Patient rooms are comfortably furnished to accommodate overnight visitors if a family member wishes to remain with a patient.  Each room has wireless Internet, telephone and TV service.  Newspapers and magazines are available for delivery as well.

Preparing for discharge
When patients are ready to return home, a case manager works directly with them to review insurance benefits and will also make a recommendation for discharge based on insurance coverage.  Case managers also assist patients with discharge arrangements that may include transportation, support services, home care, medication management and rehabilitation referrals or placements.

Billing and Payment
Part of the discharge planning process includes helping patients fully understand the billing process in order to plan for payment.  Case managers work closely with patients to clarify insurance benefits eligibility.

Please note: Patients may receive separate bills from providers other than the hospital.  These may include physicians, such as the radiologist and anesthesiologist, and the laboratory.
