Making the most of life’s challenges

Sometimes the challenges we face provide the impetus to make dramatic and positive changes that improve our lives and the lives of others.

We meet such inspirational people every day at Greenwich Hospital. You'll find them at the Greenwich Hospital campus of Smilow Cancer Hospital, where some former cancer patients go on to become certified American Cancer Society volunteers helping others.

Sports broadcaster Ed Randall, a prostate cancer survivor, looked beyond his personal health challenge and created Fans for the Cure to spread the word about early detection. Randall will join our urologists and other cancer experts in September at a special prostate cancer screening event that includes a chat with former Major League baseball players.

If you're feeling challenged by a case of the "blues" that just won't go away, sign up to speak to one of our mental health professionals on Depression Screening Day. This initial meeting could provide the inspiration you need to begin turning around your life.

We also find inspirational people among our staff, such as the men and women who help cancer patients and their families navigate some of the toughest challenges in their lives. I hope you'll join us at the Gala for Greenwich Hospital this fall to benefit our cancer services and honor these dedicated healthcare professionals.
